Yoga may be utilised as a complimentary therapy
alongside other occupational therapy intervention.

A recent study involving individuals who had
experienced a CVA, complete an 8-week intervention which included 16 sessions
of both yoga and group occupational therapy intervention.
The yoga focussed on physical postures, breathing
exercises and meditation, and the occupational therapist focused on post-CVA
falls risk management (Schmid, Van Puymbroeck, Portz, Atler, & Fruhauf,
2016).
Results showed that the intervention was beneficial,
as balance was improved by 30% and balance self-efficacy improved by 15%.
This intervention was beneficial, as it addressed the
physical aspects of balance, strength, and range of motion as well as the
cognitive component of falls risk factor management. This was delivered in a
group, which would likely be economical, and would also promote social
interactions among participants (Schmid, Van Puymbroeck, Portz, Atler, &
Fruhauf, 2016).
This demonstrates how yoga may be incorporated in
occupational therapy rehabilitation to promote the best outcome for the
patient.
